Nashville has a pulse all its own. Neon signs, live music pouring from every window, and stories waiting to be captured at every turn. And on this trip, I got to add another unforgettable chapter to mine.
I had the chance to photograph the Luke Combs UK Tribute Band at Category 10, the official Luke Combs bar located on bustling Broadway. What made the night even more surreal was being guided and mentored once again by David Bergman, the man who captures Luke Combs on the stage night after night!
A Tribute Band with Heart & Honky-Tonk Soul
The Luke Combs UK Tribute Band might be based overseas, but when they stepped on that stage in Nashville, they brought authentic Southern energy to every lyric. With soulful guitars, powerhouse vocals, and a packed crowd singing along, it didn’t feel like a tribute show—it felt like the real deal! People entered the bar thinking it was Luke Combs himself!
Category 10 is more than just a bar— it starts with a thunder and boom from the ceiling, music, and the kind of down-home energy that makes country fans feel right at home. Capturing that vibe through the lens was a total joy.
Learning from David Bergman (Again!)
Having the opportunity to learn from David Bergman a second time was truly a full-circle moment. The first time I worked with him through the Canon USA - Get Up & Go - Rock Your Shot contest, I walked away changed as a photographer. This time, in Nashville, it felt like I leveled up!
David doesn’t just shoot concerts—he feels them. Watching him read the stage, anticipate the emotion, and find those golden angles was inspiring all over again. His advice to “always shoot with intention” has stayed with me, and it pushed me to look for not just action, but connection in each frame. And of course his favorite saying when saying tips and tricks of the trade with us -"Don't be a dick"!
Capturing Country Energy
Photographing a show in Nashville—especially in a bar tied to one of the biggest names in country music—is no small thing. The lighting was fast-paced, the crowd was electric, and the band delivered hit after hit. I focused on telling the full story:
-
The grit of the guitar strings
-
The sweat in the spotlight
-
The fans with raised drinks and louder voices
-
And the smiles that made the room feel like home
Every shot became a tribute to the tribute—celebrating both the artist’s influence and the fans who show up in droves to honor it.
Final Thoughts
Nashville has always been a dream location for any music lover or photographer. But this night at Category 10 was something else. Between the mentorship, the music, and the magic of Broadway, I walked away with not just memory cards full of images—but inspiration to keep chasing the shot, the story, and the soul of live performance.
Until the next gig—
